Inspired by her observation of shadows reflected in the earth, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used that allows objects to be represented with two dimensions onto canvas. It is more like the subject has been transformed into it's own representation, and the surface takes its interpretation from the artist. This is especially effective when dealing with living objects or items that are perishable such as fruits or people. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is extremely ephemeral its nature, can be seen. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Photography and painting techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a two-dimensional, flat space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Certain areas of the photo such as the hair, or eyes, show the third dimension. Meade often integrates her painting into the environment around her, which allows for them to interact within their own world. Thus, the boundary between painting and photography is removed.
